Reverse Osmosis Systems
Bottled-water-quality drinking water straight from your tap.
The problem
Municipal water is treated to be safe, but it can still carry dissolved solids, chlorine taste, and trace contaminants that affect flavour and peace of mind. Many Winnipeg households want a final barrier between their tap and what their family drinks.
How it works
Reverse osmosis (RO) forces water under pressure through a semi-permeable membrane with pores small enough to reject the vast majority of dissolved solids, along with a carbon pre-filter for chlorine and a polishing post-filter. The result is clean, fresh-tasting drinking water dispensed from a dedicated faucet.
Installation
An under-sink RO system is typically installed beneath the kitchen sink with a small storage tank and a dedicated faucet. Installation uses your existing cold-water supply and includes a leak check and water-quality demonstration.
Questions
Does reverse osmosis waste water?
RO systems use a portion of water to flush rejected solids down the drain. Modern units are far more efficient than older models — your technician will explain the ratio for the specific system recommended for your home.
How often do filters need changing?
Pre- and post-filters are generally replaced every 6–12 months, and the RO membrane every 2–5 years depending on water quality and usage. We'll set up a simple reminder schedule.
Will it remove the minerals I want?
RO reduces most dissolved solids. If you prefer mineralized drinking water, we can discuss remineralization options as part of your system.
