Water Softeners
End hard-water scale, stubborn soap, and spotted glassware.
The problem
Much of Manitoba groundwater and municipal supply is hard — rich in dissolved calcium and magnesium. Hard water leaves scale on fixtures and appliances, makes soap harder to rinse, and can shorten the life of water heaters and plumbing.
How it works
A water softener passes hard water through a resin bed that exchanges dissolved hardness minerals (calcium and magnesium) for sodium or potassium ions. When the resin is saturated, the unit regenerates using brine to flush the captured minerals down the drain, restoring capacity.
Installation
A whole-home softener is installed where water enters the home so every tap benefits. Sizing depends on household water usage and hardness — confirmed with a water test. Installation includes bypass, drain connection, and a salt-level walkthrough.
Questions
Is softened water safe to drink?
Softened water is safe for most people. Because softening adds a small amount of sodium, households on sodium-restricted diets or with specific health needs can discuss options like a separate hard-water drinking tap.
How much salt will I use?
Salt usage depends on water hardness and household volume. Your technician will show you how to check and refill salt and set a realistic schedule.
How do I know if I actually need a softener?
A water test measures your hardness level. We only recommend a softener if your water genuinely warrants one — ask us about pricing for the test.
